Where do you train?
At Sheffield Hallam University, Collegiate Crescent Campus on Broomgrove Road. If you want directions click here. The dojo (training hall) is in the Pearson building. Changing rooms and showers are available. Parking is limited to nearby streets
When do you train?
Mondays 7:00 - 9:00 pm Fridays 7:00 - 9:00 pm
Is it only for students?
Even though we train at a university sports centre, the club is open to everyone. It also means we train all year round (excluding Bank holidays).
How much does it cost?
You can pay per session, or join the university’s membership scheme for discounts. Current training prices are £3.50 a session (October 2008). The club is a member of the Kai Shin Kai organisation (see links) and you will be expected to join after about a month for purposes of insurance and grading.
Do you have children’s classes?
We don’t have children’s classes mainly due to time, but also insurance as we train on University property.
Do you have beginner classes?
As we usually only have two sessions a week we don’t run beginner classes as such, so everyone joins in together. Obviously, when you first train you’ll start at the appropriate level depending on your previous martial arts experience.
Do I need special clothing or equipment to start?
Beginners do not need special clothing or equipment to begin with, just comfortable clothing and an open mind. Avoid wearing jewellery as this can cause damage to yourself or others. Eventually, you will probably want to buy a training suit (called a gi). These are more hard wearing for training in and can be bought at some sports shops or via the internet.
